I haven't been able to determine what fluid it takes and how much to use on this trans. I'm not sure if my last statement is accurate, but hoping an expert like Robert can clear things up. My question is: what type and how much fluid is recommended to refill this type of transmission? I initially thought this was a hydrostatic drive, but after additional research, it seems any mower with a SmartDrive has a gear driven trans, rather than a hydrostatic. Is hydrostatic fluid used on this trans or something else, and how much? Are there any special procedures to refill or bleed? Any assistance for setting the record straight here is much appreciated! I'm in the process of ordering the axle seals on both sides for good measure. It has a leaky oil seal on the longer axle side that I will replace. My research shows this transmission can be replaced new with part number 20001-VL0-B00 / 06200-VH7-305. When the time comes for my 07 Honda, I think i will try Valvoline MaxLife DEX/MERC ATF. Right now I'm working to fix an oil seal leak on a transmission that is SmartDrive controlled. I have 2 of them that I use for different yards and both need different transmission-related repairs.
